Documentary photographer working in the critical realism tradition inherited from my grandfather, Phel Steinmetz, student of Ansel Adams, professor emeritus at UC San Diego, and a foundational figure in American conceptual photography.

My work reads landscapes forensically: for what they reveal rather than for what they display. Current project: Prior Tempore, Potior Iure, a long-form documentary book on Colorado's extraction economies and the doctrine of first possession that shaped them.
